The recipient of the DAR “Good Citizen” award from Colby High School is Miss Charlene Edblom, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Arnold Edblom of Unity. This award is sponsored by the Wisconsin Society, Daughters of the American Revolution.

Candidates for this award are judged on the basis of dependability, service, leadership and patriotism. Names of local winners are sent to the state chairman for the DAR Good Citizen’s Committee, who in turn selects the state winner and two runners up who are presented $100, $25.00 and $15.00 bonds. The state winner, in turn, is then entitled to enter the national contest, where the award is a $1.000.00 scholarship for first place to the college of their choice.

The school activities in which Miss Edblom has participated are: National Honor Society, treasurer; a member of the Dramatic Group, the Masquers, and president of the Forensics Club. She is a member of the band, French Club, Girl’s Athletics Association, Vice-President of the International Thespian Society (dramatics), Pep Club and Superior Studetn Lab.

She has received a certificate of Excellence in the Forensic Contest Invitational, participated in the State Forensic Contest and was a delegate to the Youth Congress at River Falls. She has performed roles in several school plays, and is on the honor roll.

Miss Edblom is planning on attending the University of Wisconsin, Eau Claire, majoring in Special Education.
