Stanley, Roy (30 March 1893 – 27 January 1978)

A man long associated with Town of Grant agriculture and former school board member of the Washington School, Roy Stanley, 84, was to be buried in the Neillsville City Cemetery, Wednesday.

Mr. Stanley whose home address was 201 Oak St., Neillsville, died January 27, in the Neillsville Memorial Hospital after a lingering illness. He was born to Charles and Esther (Sears) Stanley on March 30, 1893 in Granton. Roy Stanley also received his education in that area. Eva Counsell became his bride on June 1, 1918 in a Marshfield ceremony and joined him in farming in the Town of Grant for the rest of his life. Stanley also was a milk hauler and drove livestock trucks for his son, Allen, for several years.

Surviving beside his wife, Eva, are four children, Mrs. Dave (Jean) Krutsch and Allen C. both of Neillsville; Mrs. Gale (Mardene) Bernett, Sparta; and mrs. Thomas (Ruth) Jacobs, Wausau. Joining them are six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Preceding him in death were his parents, three infant sons, two brothers and two sisters.

The Rev. William Noble of the United Methodist Church of Neillsville was to officiate at the 2:00 p.m. services.

Stanley, Roy (30 March 1893 – 27 January 1978)

The Rev. William Noble of the Neillsville United Methodist Church officiated at the funeral service of Roy Stanley, 84, held February 1, from the Georgas-Gesche Funeral Home, Neillsville. Stanley passed away on January 27. Burial was made in the Neillsville City Cemetery.

Corrine Armitage sang “How Great Thou Art” and “Just As I Am,” accompanied by Mrs. Iris Musil during the services. Pallbearers included Charles Schofield, Harry Wedekind, George Kuehn, Frank Hoeser, Wendell Elmhorst, Calvin Gerhardt, Steve Kosmosky and Art Dux.

Attending services from out of town were Mr./Mrs. Tommy Jacobs and daughter Penny, Wausau; Sherry Kling, Madison; Marcia J. Strand, Brown Deer; Mardene Bernett, Apache Junction, Ariz.; Mr./Mrs. Kenneth Chase and Mr./Mrs. Duane Counsell and daughter, Kim, Stevens Point; and Lawrence Stanley and daughter, Mary, Marshfield.
