Twenty-five years ago, when Eleonore Riber started work at the Post Company, she intended to work only six weeks, enough to buy her daughter a winter coat, but that short time ended up into twenty-five years, and now on December 6, 1976, Mrs. Riber retired from the Teledyne Post Company. This is especially significant in her case, because, although many others have retired in the past, no one else has retired with twenty-five years in back of them. She started in 1951 with Post, when they first started hiring women.

On Thursday night, November 11, 1976, fellow lady employees of the Post Company feted Mrs. Riber with a retirement party, at the Owen Inn, Owen. Twenty one ladies were in attendance, and presented the guest, Mrs. Riber, with a blue corsage, her favorite color. Those present enjoyed the evening socially with dinner and refreshments.

Those in attendance at the party included: Irene Petrauski, June Gieger, Bernice Hoffman, Ida Satonica, Ruth Wendt, Vi Poppe, Evie Szczcaniak, Myria Ludwig, Angie Bonk, Alice Bowen, Lois Rued, Helen Rohland, Jerry Frane, Betty LePage, Bea Hansen, Loren Carlson, Evonne Gossel, Dorena Michlig, Darlene Pomputis, Wilma Skolowski, and Julie Geendy.

During the evening, Mrs. Walter Bonk recited a poem, which she had memorized, and which had been written by Casimer Grucelski of Thorp, a retired Post employee.

Eleonore Riber has lived in the Owen and Withee area most of her life, having moved here with her parents from Duluth when she was just 2 ½ years old. She graduated from the Withee High School in 1931, and married Carl Riber in March of 1936. The wedding took place in the home of Carl’s parents, Mr. and Mrs. Peter Riber, who lived south of Owen.

The Ribers have two children, Tom, who resides in Lake Worth, Florida, and is employed by Pratt-Whitney Aircraft as an electronics engineer, and Sue, Mrs. Emil Niemi, who, with her husband and son Michael also live in Lake Worth. Emil is also employed by Pratt-Whitney, and sue is a registered X-ray technician and works part time for Dr. Manning in Lake Worth.

Mrs. Riber has been active in many community activities, which include being a Cub Scout Den Mother, active in Band Mother’s Club, when Tom and Sue were in school, and is an active member of the Church Women of the United Church of Christ, Owen.

Upon retirement, the Ribers are taking their trailer home on a trip to Lake Worth, Florida, where they will spend the winter enjoying sunshine and relaxing with their children and family.
