Petke, Walter L. (10 May 1911 – 22 Oct 1976)

Walter L. Petke, age 65, of Withee, Wisconsin, died on Friday, October 22, 1976 at 1:30 p.m. Services were held on Monday, October 25, 1976 at 1:00 p.m. at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Withee, with the Rev. Douglas Groenewold presiding. Burial was at the Riverside Cemetery.

Pallbearers were the brothers of the deceased, Ray, Ted, Arthur, Fred and Otto Petke, and his grandson, Art Petke Jr.

Born on May 10, 1911 in Chicago, Mr. Petke moved to the Withee area and attended the schools in the area. He was a veteran of four and one-half years of service during World War II, and later was a farmer and a truck driver.

He was married on June 5, 1942 to the former Eleanore Meinhardt, and they had three daughters, Mrs. Larry (Yvonne) Leis, living in Minneapolis, Minn., Mrs. James (Kathleen) Cage, living in Portland, Oregon, and Mrs. Ronald (Mary Lou) Davis.

In 1960 the Petke’s moved to Minneapolis, then later retired to Withee, Wisconsin.

Mr. Petke is survived by his wife, Eleanore, three daughters, five brothers, Ray, Ted, Arthur of Withee, Freed of Chicago, and Otto of Waterloo, Iowa; four sisters, Mrs. Arthur (Ruth) Jankee, Owen, Mrs. Gertrude Rohland, Withee, Mrs. Oscar Frappel, Lake Forest, Ill., and Mrs. Harold (Elsie) Gosse, Golden, Colorado, and seven grandchildren.
