Huther, Arthur F. (22 Jan 1918 – 8 Sep 1976)

Local friends of Art Huther were saddened when death came to him on Wednesday, September 8, 1976. He is remembered here by many as having worked part time for many years for the Owen Enterprise and was known by many here as a friendly fun loving person and an enthusiastic sports fan.

Arthur Francis Huther, 58, of 604 E. Broadway Street, Medford, who was employed as sport reporter for the Medford Star News until his retirement June 30 of this year due to ill health, died at 9:30 p.m. Wednesday at Medford Memorial Hospital. He had been a patient there for one week.

Services were held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Holy Rosary Catholic Church, with Rev. William Green, pastor, officiating. Military rites and burial was made in Medford Catholic Cemetery.

Mr. Huther was born January 22, 1918 in Medford, and attended the Medford Public Schools, graduating from high school in 1936. He was employed at the Medford Star News from 1937 until entering the military in 1942. He served overseas in Italy and Africa during World War II, and upon discharge in1946, he again returned to work at the Star News as a linotype operator.

Mr. Huther was a continual backer of all types of sport in the Medford area. At the time of his death he was clerk of the Medford area Board of Education and a member of Holy Rosary Catholic Church and the Medford VGW. He also was a former chairman of the Medford Mink Festival.

On December 14, 1941 he married the former Ceona (Sis) Soderberg, who survives.

Other survivors include two sons, Dick, Marshfield, and (?) unreadable, Medford; a daughter, Kay Huther, Green Bay, and five grandchildren.
