Hoberg, Navy Electrician’s Third Class Raymond D. (Service Notes - 1977)

Navy Electrician’s Mate Third Class Raymond D. Hoberg, son of Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd C. Hoberg, Hewett St. Neillsville, recently participated in Exercise “Comptuex 5-77” in the Atlantic Ocean and Caribbean Sea. He is serving as a crewmember aboard the amphibious command ship USS Mount Whitney, homeported in Norfolk.

The exercise included 166 U.S. Atlantic Fleet Ships and the six ships of NATO’s Atlantic Standing Naval Force Squadron… “Comptuex 5-77” was designed to improve the individual combat readiness of each ship involved, by stressing all phases of naval operations, including antisubmarine, surface and antiair warfare. A 1975 graduate of Neillsville High School, he joined the Navy in May 1975.
