Bakke, Arnold & Leah (7 April 1933)

Mr. and Mrs. Arnold I. (Jean Leah) Bakke of 310 Hickory St., Abbotsford, who were married April 7, 1933 in the Congregational parsonage at Owen, observed the golden anniversary of their marriage April 9 at the Village Plaza, Spencer.

The Rev. Margaret E. Shepherd of First United Church of Christ, Owen, officiated at an anniversary service at the Village Plaza, where the buffet dinner also was served.

Bakke, son of Mr. and Mrs. Albert (Mathilda) Bakke, was born January 1, 1909 in Curtiss. He attended Midway School in the Curtiss area and took a D.H.I.A. testing course in Madison.

His wife, Daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Albert (Jean) Phillips, was born September 20, 1911 in What Cheer, Iowa, and attended school there and in Ohen (Owen?), where she also attended high school. Before she married, she lived in What Cheer and in the Curtiss area.

After marriage, Bakke had various jobs in this area and spent eight years in La Crosse before starting farming in the Curtiss area. The couple retired 30 years later, in March 1974, and since then have made Abbotsford their home.

They are members of First United Church of Christ, Owen, Mrs. Bakke also affiliated with its Fellowship and Circle 3. He served on the board of directors nine years; Clark Electric Co-op, Greenwood, 10 years; Marathon-Clark Co-op, Abbotsford; AMPI, four years; and ASC, Clark County committees 12 years.

They have a son, Robert A. Bakke, Curtiss, on the home farm in Curtiss, and four grandchildren. A 5-month-old daughter, Margaret Elizabeth, died in 1934.
