Alger, Lorraine C. (25 January 1927 – 4 April 2021)

Lorraine C. Alger, 94, of Stanley, formerly of Thorp, passed away on Sunday, April 4, 2021 at Ascension Our Lady of Victory Hospital in Stanley.

Lorraine Catherine Kowalski was born on January 25, 1927 in Chicago, IL, the daughter of Alexander and Frances (Dombkowski) Kowalski.

As a young girl, she moved with her family to Thorp and grew up on a farm. Lorraine went back to Chicago as a teenager and worked in her sister, Harriet's, grocery store. She was united in marriage to Sidney Anton Alger, Jr. on September 20, 1947, at St. Hedwig’s Rectory in Thorp. They bought a farm in the Town of Thorp, where they farmed until retiring in September of 1995.

Lorraine had many interests, but especially enjoyed reading, gardening, and going on car rides with her husband, Sidney.

She was a member of St. Bernard-St. Hedwig's Catholic Church and its PCCW, the Thorp American Legion Auxiliary, and the Rock Dam Rod & Gun Club.

Lorraine will be dearly missed by her children: Georgia Morrison, Bob (Donna) Alger, Jim (Cindy) Alger, Joe (Jean) Alger, all of Thorp; nine grandchildren: Cathy, Kevin, Travis, Eric, Scott, Loren, Dustin, Amanda, and Adam; many great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her step-father: Joseph Dobzanski; 3 grandchildren: Paul Morrison, Sara Alger, and Aubrey LeTendre; one great-granddaughter: Leyla Alger; one son-in-law: George Morrison; 2 sisters: Harriet Brown and Wanda Hendriks; and 4 brothers: Joe, Anthony, Edwin and Casimer Kowalski.

A private memorial service for the family will be held at 10:30am on Thursday, April 8, 2021 at St. Bernard-St. Hedwig's Catholic Church in Thorp. Burial of cremains take place at Riverside Cemetery, in Withee, following the service.

A special thank you to The Homeplace in Stanley, for the excellent care given to Lorraine during the past 3 years.
