In the early 1890's and extending into the early 1900's, there was a Women's
Christian Temperance Union headed by Mrs. G. I. Follette. This was an active,
dedicated group of women who met regularly in the homes of the members. At one
such meeting in 1897 mention is made of a guest speaker who gave a lecture on
religion.
The insignia of the W.C.T.U. was a white ribbon which all proudly wore.
Miss Rizpah Crowell, Mrs. Anna Bodle and Mrs. Cyrus (Livonia) Messer, later
fondly called Grandma Messer by all who knew her, were members of the
organization.
