Florence, Bessie (12 September 1884 – 7 November 1976)

A former Cannonville resident, Mrs. Bessie Florence, died Sunday, November 7, at the Bethel Home in Viroqua at the age of 92. Services held at the Heindl Funeral Home in Phillips on November 10 were followed by interment in the Lakeside Cemetery there. A visitation and prayer service was held the previous evening at the Beier Funeral Home in Viroqua.

Mrs. Florence, the daughter of Nels P. and Sophia nelson, was born September 12, 1884, in Vulcan, Mi. She attended Oshkosh and Stevens Point teachers’ colleges and taught school in the Phillips area for about 25 years. Her husband, Peter Harry Florence, preceded her in death in 1969; they had lived in Viroqua in later years, and Mrs. Florence had resided at the Bethel Home for the past few years. She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star and the Rebekah Lodge.

Survivors include one daughter, Mrs. Ethel Christenson of Sturgeon Bay; three sons, Orin of King, Gene of Viroqua and Elroy of Green Bay; one brother Alfred Nelson of King; and 15 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.
