Lindner, James A. (8 AUG 1928 – 20 OCT 2020)

Jim Lindner, 92, Loyal, passed away on Tuesday, Oct. 20, 2020 at home — the same home he was born in and farmed most of his life. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., on Saturday, Oct. 31, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Greenwood, with Fr. Leo Johnson officiating. Burial will follow in St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery. A non-contact visitation will be held at the church on Saturday from 10 a.m. until time of service.

James Anthony Lindner was born on Aug. 8, 1928, in the town of Eaton, rural Loyal, to Mathias and Gertrude (nee Scherer) Lindner. He was raised on the family farm and received his education at St. Mary’s Catholic School in Greenwood. Jim met Arlene Balzer of West Allis on May 23, 1959, at a wedding dance at the Silver Dome Ballroom near Neillsville. They were united in marriage on June 17, 1961, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Greenwood. They celebrated 54 years of marriage before Arlene passed away in 2015. Jim played baseball for the Greenwood Merchants city baseball team in the 1950s and early 60s, helping the Merchants make it to the state tournament held at County Stadium in Milwaukee a few times. In the 70s and 80s, he played slow pitch softball for Ray and Ann’s Tavern and Jake’s Barr, finally hanging up his glove for good at the age of 60. Jim was a lifetime member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church and enjoyed fishing, hunting, playing cards, bowling, gardening, polka music and waking his kids up at 6 in the morning to help milk the cows.

Jim will be dearly missed by his six children: Steven of Eau Claire, Matthew (Sheri Slark) of Loyal, Jessica of Leesburg, Va., Patti of Eau Claire, David (Lora) of Greenwood, and Randy (Becky) of Wausau; nine grandchildren: Samantha, Anna, Nolyn, Brecklyn, Graesyn, Jacob, Alyson, Alyssa and Anthony; one sister: Helen (Richard) Esselman of Loyal; three sisters-in-law: Helen Lindner of Mosinee, Josie Lindner of Loyal, and Marion (Eugene) Hessen of North Prairie; a brother-in-law: James (Carol) Balzer of Waukesha; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Jim was preceded in death by his wife, Arlene; his parents; six brothers: Joseph, Frank, Edward, Bernard, Lawrence and William; and three sisters: Genevieve Budzisz, Eleanor Lindner and Loretta Lindner.
