Gisvold, Virginia Ann (3 January 1934 - 3 January 2019)

Virginia Ann Gisvold, age 85, of Chippewa Falls, died Thursday, January 3, 2019 at Sacred Heart Hospital in Eau Claire.

She was born on January 3, 1934 to Roman and Frances (Kolasinski) Smigaj in Thorp, where she grew up. Virginia later married Dennis Gisvold from Stanley, where they resided and raised six children together. Starting at the age of 19, Virginia worked as a CNA in respiratory and cardiac therapy at Victory Memorial Hospital in Stanley. After she retired from the hospital, Virginia began working as a home interior rep and spending a lot of time with her grandchildren. Along with that she took up many different activities such as dancing, oil painting, ceramics and ceramic painting, and doodling. Virginia became quite the artist. She enjoyed the many things that came with retirement but one of the fun things that she enjoyed doing that she could consider her “rebellious stage” was always having her hair dyed fun and funky colors. Virginia was a member of the Red Hat Society and as a proud Republican she often volunteered when it came voting time.

Virginia is survived by Dennis Gisvold; children, Lee (Karin) Gisvold, Julie (Paul) Sikkema, Mary (Jim) Zenner, Carol Gisvold, and Donna (Dan) Halterman; siblings, Ruth (Marvin) Ammentorp, and John (Camille) Smigaj; grandchildren, Denise, Anthony, Tyler, Christopher, Holly, Michael, Rebecca, Kelley, Katie, Little Danny, and Jake; great-grandchildren, Emerick, Isabelle, Ziva, Eli, and Abigail. She is further survived by many nieces, nephews, and other relatives.

She is preceded by her parents and daughter Marcie Mendalski.

Family services will be held at a later date. Cremation Society of Wisconsin, Altoona is assisting the family. Online condolences can be left at www.cremationsociety-wi.com.
