Humke, Meda (Jun 1903)

The home of Mr. and Mrs. Henry Humke was the scene of a large and happy occasion Thursday afternoon and evening, when their second daughter, Meda, was united in marriage to Ferdinand Decker. Rev. John Schmalz performed the ceremony at half-past four o’clock. Edward Schwarze, cousin of the groom, was best man, and Ella Humke, sister of the bride, was best maid.

About 200 relatives and friends were present to witness the event and help celebrate the occasion. The young couple was fairly loaded down with presents of all sorts, showing that each is kindly thought of by those who know them. Each was born and raised on the West Side and within a mile of each other, and have always been popular with their associated.

Following congratulations and a general social time, a sumptuous supper was served by the hosts, this being served in the bowery built for the occasion. Here a dance was held later in the evening, Fred Wehrman and George Buker furnishing the music.

Mr. and Mrs. Decker have gone to housekeeping on the home place, on the farm owned by the groom, but which August Schwarze is working for him this summer while he himself is working at the carpenter trade. The Gleaner joins with their many friends in wishing the happy bride and groom a long married life, full of happiness, prosperity and usefulness.
