Buchanan, Jesse J. (18 MAY 1999 – 21 AUG 2020)

Jesse J. Buchanan, 21, Loyal, passed away on Friday, Aug. 21, 2020, in the town of Knowlton, Marathon County. A celebration of life was held at 1 p.m., on Saturday, Aug. 29, at Schuster Park in Neillsville. Pastors Tim Becker, Geoff Smith and Natalie Guzman officiated. A private family burial was held at Pine Hill Cemetery in the town of Mayville, rural Curtiss, on Thursday, Aug. 27. Pallbearers were his brothers: Andrew, Stephen and Nathan Buchanan; and his uncles: Tim, Dan and Tom Buchanan.

Jesse James Buchanan was born on May 18, 1999, in Medford, to Stephen L. and Kerline (nee Lully) Buchanan. He was raised and received his education in Greenwood and Loyal, graduating from Loyal High School in 2018. While in high school, he excelled in school and sports, including football, wrestling and track. He was part of a couple of relay teams that set records in track, and was a conference and regional champion during his senior year. Jesse also signed up for the U.S. Army Reserves during his junior year of high school, and was still in the Army Reserves until his death. He was currently working in construction as a roofer. He had many interests, but especially loved fishing, hunting, being outdoors, and playing football for the Marshfield Bandits of the Champions Amateur Football League. Jesse was a fun-loving person who was always happy and fun to be around. He was compassionate, considerate and thoughtful to his fellow friends, and never let anything bother him. He will be greatly missed.

Jesse will be dearly missed by his parents: Stephen and Kerline Buchanan of Loyal; his siblings: Andrew of Minneapolis, Minn., Stephen of Laramie, Wyo., and Nathan, Shalisha, Ethan, Jerome, Harmony, Rei, Jewel and Kade, all of Loyal; his maternal grandparents: Mitchlet and Zean Lully of the Bahamas; his paternal grandmother: Arlene Buchanan of Owen; and aunts, uncles, cousins, and many friends.

He was preceded in death by his paternal grandfather, Vern Buchanan, on Oct. 28, 2007.
