Louis Zorman was born in Lakovce na Gorenskem, Jugoslavia in 1892. He came to
America in 1913, settling in Ely, Minnesota. From there he went to North Dakota
to work in the mines. He bought a forty acre farm northeast of Willard from John
Slovnik in 1921.
Mrs. Zorman (Evanka Bergant) was born in Dvorje pri Cirkve na Gorenskem in 1905.
She came to America in 1921, settling in Ely, Minnesota. From there she moved to
Sheen, Minnesota. In 1925 she came to Willard where she and Louis were married.
Their farm eventually increased to 280 acres. The original log barn housed six
cows and twelve chickens. Mr. Zorman hauled gravel for a stone wall from the Eau
Claire River in 1925. In 1926 they built their new barn.
This farm was sold to Frank L. and Jean Govek in 1958. They bought the Frank
Abel farm east on highway G in 1956. They farmed until 1958 when they retired
and moved to Greenwood. Mr. Zorman passed away in 1976. Mrs. Zorman still enjoys
good health there.
An outstanding memory in their life is their struggle to provide food for their
cattle during the drought years. They drove their team of horses and wagon to
the marsh to cut hay by hand. They carried the hay out to the steel wheel wagon
on two poles (one person on each end). This they did every summer for five bad
years. The round trip involved over sixteen miles each day.
To this union were born three sons: Edward of Greenwood, Albert on the family
farm and Rudolph of Marshfield, Wisconsin.
