Kallio, Safira (12 April 1894 - 13 January 1982)

OWEN - Services will be Saturday at Bethany Lutheran Church in Owen for Mrs. Safira Kallio, 87, Owen, who died Wednesday at the Thorp Care Center, Thorp,

Officiating will be the Rev. Peter Thomsen. Burial will be in the Withee Riverside Cemetery. Friends may call at the Maurina Funeral in Owen.

The former Safira Oksanen was born April 12, 1894 at Harma, Finland and came to the United States at the age of 19. She was married to Andrew Kallio June 2, 1917, at Stambaugh, Michigan. He died November 29, 1973.

They lived in Stambaugh until 1928, when they moved to a farm in the town of Hoard. She moved to Owen in 1973.

She was a member of Bethany Lutheran Church and also a correspondent for a Finnish newspaper in New York Mills, Minnesota.

Survivors include a daughter, Mrs. Woodrow (Sylvia) Petersen, Owen; a son, Toivo Kallio, Owen; five grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Eric Oksanen, a sister and by a daughter in infancy.
