Joseph Kaucnik was born in Kamnik, Slovenia. His wife Maria was born in Loh, Slovenia. They were married in Slovenia and their son Joe and daughter Mary were born there too.

In 1902 Joseph Kaucnik came to Waukegan, Illinois, where he found a job, in 1904 his wife, Maria and children arrived in Waukegan. In 1908 they purchased forty acres of wild land about 1 V2 miles northwest of Willard, later called the Loushe farm.

The family was active in the Willard community af¬fairs. Joseph Kaucnik was one of the Charter-Members of the K.S.K.J, lodge at Willard.

In 1914 the Kaucnik family purchased a larger farm, southeast of Owen, then called Bright's Landing. They still kept in touch with the Willard community throughout the year. At present his grandson, Stanley Suda, owns and operates the Suda Store in Willard.
