Thorp-The New Bleachers are in! (2014)
After many area volunteers, school staff, and coaches worked to tear the
20-plus-year-old bleachers out of the Thorp High School gymnasium, the school
was ready to have the new set installed.
Over the course of three days, employees from Goodson Company out of Milwaukee
unloaded their trucks and began assembling the school’s new bleachers. The new,
plastic bleachers have nine enclosed rows, handrails, and a curtain along the
one exposed side to eliminate individuals going underneath the bleachers during
sporting events Also, because the new bleachers are completely enclosed the
issue with garbage being thrown under the bleachers during events no longer
exists.
The Thorp School Board of Education approved the purchase of the new bleachers
during their regular monthly meeting on January 15, 2014, after speaking with
many citizens regarding concerns over the former seating arrangement, which
included issues with the lack of handrails and the condition of the aging
boards. To better prepare for the purchase some members of the Board and
Administration spoke with and toured other area schools that have installed
bleachers from the same company before voting for final approval.
