Wedin, Donald B. (18 APR 1958 – JUN 2020)

Donald Bruce Wedin, age 62, passed away in June 2020, at his home in Abbotsford.

He was born on April 18. 1958. to Lily (Smith) and Richard Wedin of Spurr Township. Mich. He was the third of four children.

Don graduated from Westwood High School in Ishpeming, Michigan in 1976, and worked for the Cleveland-Cliffs Iron Company for several years.

He attended Michigan Technological University. where he studied computer systems. In 1984 he enlisted in the U.S. Air Force and served as a computer programmer/analyst and computer operator at Randolph Air Force Base in Tex. In 1990, he left the military and returned to Spurr Township to help build and operate the family owned Wedin Sawmill. This began a long career in the lumber industry He worked for the Aspen Lumber Company in Sagola, Michigan, from 199-1 through 200-1. In 2004. he studied at the NHLA Lumber Inspection School, where he ranked among the top of his class. In January 2005. he began working as a lumber grader in Dorchester, where he spent the rest of his career.

Don was a kind and caring person who loved spending time with family, traveling to the Upper Peninsula to be with them whenever possible. He was a fun and loving uncle to five nephews, whom he took fishing and led on excursions through the woods around Spurr Township and Michigamme.

He was a generous gift giver, happy to lavish family members with thoughtful and creative presents. Don also served as the family genealogist, extensively researching his ancestral roots in Sweden and Finland.

He loved music and was always excited to discover new artists and albums, which he eagerly shared with famil. Don bad a special bond with cats and was able to earn the trust and affection of even the shiest felines. He closely followed the Green Bay Packers and used his computer programming skills to create an analytical system to rank NFL teams and predict the outcomes of every game. He was a chili connoisseur and kept an exhaustive collection of recipes. He was always curious and eager to learn and discuss new facts about the world.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

He is survived by his three siblings: Darlene (Donald) Dreisbach of Marquette. Michigan. Richard (Michelle) Wedin of Spurr Township and Robert (Helen •Bitsy') Wedin of Marquette; his nephews: Tristan (Lilij Dreisbach of West Windsor. N.J., Johannes Dreisbach of Madison and Samuel, Benjamin and Nicholas Wedin of Marquette.

Due to concerns about the COVID-19 pandemic, a private ceremony will be held with immediate family.
