Dux, Louis Herman Walter (18 February 1925 – 29 September 2001)

Louis Herman Walter Dux, 76, of Globe passed away Sept. 29, at the Palliative Care Unit of St. Joseph’s Hospital in Marshfield. Louis died from cancer that was diagnosed on Aug. 30, 2001.

Louis was born Feb. 18, 1925 in the Town of Pine Valley to Herman and Elfrieda (Schoenherr) Dux. Louis was married to Jennie Thoma Oct. 2, 1948. They had three children Debra, Daniel and David.

In 1927, Louis’ parents moved from their family farm in Pine Valley with horse and sleighs, to the farm in the Town of Weston where Louis proudly established a registered Holstein herd. The farm is a family century farm and presently operated successfully by his son Daniel.

Louis attended Neillsville High School and graduated in 1943. He was not only a successful farmer, he also served on the Board of Directors of Tri-State Breeder Corporation for nine years and served as a director of the Clark County Holstein Breeders Association.

From 1973 to 1974 Louis served as a member of the Advisory council of the Department of Vocational Agriculture at Neillsville High School. Louis was on the Board of Clark Electric for 19 years, where he served as chairman for six years. He was chairman of WECA for two years. Louis also was a director and Insurance Representative for Lynn Insurance Agency, 4-H member for 12 years and a member of FFA for four years where he held offices of Vice President and Treasurer. His interest and establishment of registered cattle began through “the FFA Registered Bull Program.”

Louis was a devout Christian, holding positions of Church President, Treasurer and on the School Board for Immanuel Lutheran Church.

He enjoyed his friends, hunting, fishing, and singing in the church choir, farming, making maple syrup, cutting wood and tinkering with old engines. Above all, Louis was a loving husband, father, grandfather and Christian.

Louis is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Jennie Dux of Globe; one sister, Gladys (Gordon) Thoma of Loyal; three children, Debra (Bill) Grap of Milwaukee, Daniel (Bunny) of Neillsville and David (Christine) of Winona, MN; five grandchildren, Aimee and Kimmie Grap of Milwaukee, Josh and Elizabeth Dux of Neillsville and Destiny Dux of Winona, MN.

He was preceded in death by his parents and brother-in-law, Henry Thoma.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, Oct. 4, at Immanuel Evangelical Lutheran Church of Globe. Pastor Kevin Hanke will be officiating. Karen Hoppa will be the organist. Dawn Thoma and Walter Schoenherr will be the soloists.

Burial will be in the Globe Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Greg and Gary Thoma, Paul and Richard Schoenherr, Melvin Dux, Daniel McDonough, Roger Northup and Ervin Kroll.

Visitation will be from 6-9 p.m. Wednesday at the Gesche Funeral Home and from 10 a.m. until the time of service on Thursday at the church.
