Duckett, Torpedoman’s Mate 2-c Gerald A. (Service Notes - 1976)

Torpedoman’s Mate 2-c Gerald A. Duckett, son of Mr. and Mrs. Edwin C. Duckett of Rt. 1 Owen, is participating in “Operation 200” as a crewmember of the destroyer USS Damato.

The operation consists of a complex series of fleet readiness exercises. Under the overall direction of Vice Admiral John J. Shanahan, Commander of the U.S. Second Fleet, the seven-week exercise involves more than 30 ships from the Atlantic Fleet and includes Marine Cops landing forces plus Navy and Marine Corps aviation units.

A former student of Sonoma Valley High School, Sonoma, Ca., Duckett joined the Navy in December 1971. His ship is homeported at Newport, R.I.
