Neillsville Student Receives WI Athletic Director Association Scholarship

In a press release May 19, the Wisconsin Athletic Directors Association (WADA)
announced that one of its six scholarship winners for the 2019-20 school year is
a graduating senior of Neillsville High School.
In the release, Brian Margelofsky, the representative for WADA’s second
district, said Monte Diestler was one of the scholarship recipients.
“On behalf of the WADA Scholarship Committee, I would like to congratulate the
six selected winners,” wrote Margelofsky, who is also the activities director
for Northland Pines middle high schools in Eagle River.
Diestler will receive a $500 scholarship after completing one semester of
secondary schooling.
To be selected, candidates must be the daughter, son, stepson or stepdaughter of
a current WADA member who is employed as an athletic administrator at a high or
middle school Recipients may also have a guardian who is a WADA member and is an
athletic administrator.
Diestler is the son of Matt and Diane Diestler. Matt Diestler is the athletic
director at Neillsville High School.
Other criteria to receive a scholarship include being a graduating senior,
having been accepted to a post-secondary institution, having completed six
athletic seasons and earned at least one letter during their junior or senior
years and having committed no more than one major athletic or activities code
violation during their high school career.
Recognition of all the recipients will be at the 2020 WADA convention.
Students had to apply no later than April 1 to be in consideration for the
scholarship.
Each candidate is evaluated in a points system based on five categories, which
are athletic participation for up to 40 points, non-athletic co-curricular
participation for up to 15 points, essay answers to two questions on the
application for up to 30 points, the activities director’s involvement with WADA
for up to five points and community service for up to 10 points.
The scholarship committee is comprised of one WADA Board member and one WADA
member for each district. If a committee member has a student eligible for the
scholarship, the committee member’s district representative serves as the voting
member on the scholarship committee.
The five other winners in the state were Michael Schweisthal of Arcadia High
School, Graham Langkamp of Baraboo High School, Maggie Rosen of Clear Lake High
School, Kortnie Volk of Three Lakes High School and Kiera Holzemer of Cuba City
High School.
