Kariger, Florence (Retired Teacher - 1976)

Florence Kariger has retired as an elementary school teacher at Alma Center after 20 years in teaching profession.

Mrs. Kariger, a native of Chicago, attended Valparaiso University in Indiana, taking a two-year pre-nursing course. Following her marriage to Harold Kariger, they continued to live in the Chicago area, where their four children were born.

The family moved to Jackson County in 1953 and shortly after Mrs. Kariger entered the teaching field.

She attended Eau Claire University one year, then began teaching grade six at Fairchild. She continued her education by attending summer and night school until she received her bachelor’s degree in elementary education.

The last eight years she had been language arts teacher for grades four, five and six at Alma Center, and five years has been elementary principal.

Mrs. Kariger developed the elementary individualized instruction courses at Alma Center, specializing in reading, spelling and vocabulary. She plans to do substitute teaching in the school district.

The Kariger’s have three children, John of Fairchild; Alice Fischer of St. Paul; and Jim of Crestwood, Il., and 12 grandchildren.
