Noel Schraufnagel, son of Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Schraufnagel, Abbotsford, received
a PH. D. degree in English at the summer commencement of the University of
Nebraska at Lincoln, on July 14, 1971.
Dr. Schraunagel’s dissertation, The Negro Novel; 1940 – 1970,” is a study of the
trends of black fiction since the publication of Richard Wright’s “Native Son,”
with a special emphasis on the black writers reaction to American Society.
A 1957 graduate of Abbotsford High School, Dr. Schraufnagel did his
undergraduate work at Wisconsin State University, River Falls, where he was the
recipient of the Chisholm Award in 1966. He received a three year NDEA
Fellowship to the University of Nebraska in 1967.
Dr. Schraufnagel joined the Humanities Department of Alcorn A & M College,
Lorman, Mississippi, as an assistant professor of English, in September 1970,
and is currently taking part in a workshop in black cultural heritage, sponsored
by the National Endowment for the Humanities.
He is married to the former Darlene Dusek of River Falls.
The couple is expected in Abbotsford in August on vacation, and will return to
Lorman, Mississippi for the fall session at Alcorn A & M College.
