Salzgeber, Esther L. (6 FEB 1932 – 6 MAY 2020)

Esther L. Salzgeber, age 88, of rural Curtiss, passed away on Wednesday, May 6, 2020, at Care Partners in Medford under the tender care of Hope Hospice.

A funeral service for immediate family was held on Saturday, May 9, 2020, at 1:00 p.m. at Riverside Cemetery near Withee. Pastor Faith Bosmans officiated. Family and friends can watch the service through Facebook by typing in Maurina Schilling Funeral Homes.

Esther was born February 6, 1932, the daughter of Frank and Emma (Johnson) Bloom in Chicago, Illinois. She graduated from high school and received her teaching certificate from North Central Bible College and Medford Teachers College. Esther taught for a few years in a one-room school house. She also worked as a CNA and was a driver for the Amish for many years until recently.

Esther was united in marriage to George Allen Litten on August 10, 1957. He preceded her in death in February 1962. She was united in marriage to Christian Salzgeber on September 30, 1973, in Chicago. He preceded her in death on July 9, 1997.

Esther was a member of the New Harvest Assembly of God in Withee. She especially loved helping others and gathering with her friends. Esther enjoyed reading and watching the birds. Most importantly, she cherished her faith and her family.

Esther is survived by three children: Judy (Ray) Kilty of Owen, Jerome Litten of Elk River, MN and James (Luann) Litten of Withee; eight step-children: Chris Salzgeber of Chippewa Falls, Jerry (Kathy) Salzgeber of Tacoma, WA, . Dennis (Judy) Salzgeber of Owen, Edwin (Valerie) Salzgeber of Barron, Eugene Salzgeber of Holcombe, Jean ( (Dave) Heldstab of Buckley, WA, Joan Salzgeber of Shakopee, MN and Joyce Salzgeber of Loyal; 11 grandchildren; 22 step-grandchildren; 15 great- grandchildren; and numerous step-great-grandchildren. She is further survived by her sister-in-law, Selma “Sally” Bloom of West Bend; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her two husbands; her son, Jeff Litten; two brothers: Carl (Betty) Bloom and Herbert Bloom.
