NHS To Graduate Largest Class in History (Graduation – 20 May 1976)

Four long years of high school study will be ended for 128 Neillsville High School seniors tonight (Thursday) when commencement exercises are held in the high school auditorium. The program is scheduled to start at 8 p.m.

The class is the largest in history of the school. One of nearly similar size was graduated four years ago.

Leading the class will be Susan VanDam, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth VanDam, as Valedictorian. Salutatorian is Karen Alsterberg, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Henry Alsterberg. Honor students to be recognized during the program are: Lynn Corey, Cheryl Henchen, Debbie Oestreich, Janell Ross, Dan Schnabel, Ann Sternitzky, Patti Tibbett, Peggy Trybula, Marcia VandeBerg and Brenda Wilcox.

The program will open with a march played by Cheri Diers. The Rev. Joseph Henseler, pastor of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, will give the Invocation and benediction.

Presentation of awards will be made by Prin. Henry J. Lukes, who also will assist Robert Kunze, president of the board of education, in the presentation of diplomas.

Music during the program will be furnished by the high school mixed chorus singing, “We’ve Only Just Begun” and “A Better World,” and by Tim Voigt, a member of the graduating class, who will sing, “The Way WE Were.”

The class motto is: “My interest is in the future – because I’m going to spend the rest of my life there;” class colors, red and white; and class flower, peppermint carnation.
