Degen, Fred (29 July 1873-25 September 1936)

NEILLSVILLE--Fred Degen, 63, a lifetime resident of Clark County, was found dead in his home at Loyal, Sunday evening. His body was discovered by some friends who went to his home after they failed to see him around his home or downtown haunts the past few days.

Coroner P. C. Ludovic, Neillsville, was notified and the with Sheriff Mats Madsen, investigated the circumstances. The coroner after investigation, gave as his opinion that Degen had been dead since Friday, and that the cause of death was due to a diabetic condition, from which the man had suffered for many years.

LOYAL-- Funeral services for Fred Degen will be conducted at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Harold Hills and at the Methodist Church on Tuesday.

Mr. Degen was born in the town of Loyal on July 29, 1873, the son of William and Wilhelmina Degen. He was married to Bertha Schoettler.

They lived on a farm near the village of Loyal for many years, moving to the village a number of years ago. After their arrival here, Mr. Degen engaged in carpenter work. Mrs. Degen died in June, 1828.

Four daughter and one son survive. They are; Mrs. Harold (Anna) Hills, Loyal: Mrs. Harry (Esther) Brunt, Des Plaines, Illinois; William, Idaho; Mrs. Alvin (Margaret) Wolfe, Greenwood; Doris, attending school at Milwaukee.

There are also four brothers and two sisters; Herman, Seattle; Frank, West Allis; the Rev. August Degen, Burlington; Albert, New Hampshire; Mrs. August Witt and Mrs. Elmer Shupe, Loyal.
