Schmidt, Bernard (11 September 1930-19 February 1987)

LOYAL--Services will be Monday at St. Anthony's Catholic Church, Loyal, for Bernard Schmidt, 56, Route 2, Loyal, who died Thursday at Neillsville Memorial Hospital.

The Rev. Dennis Lynch will officiate and burial will be in the parish cemetery. Full military rites will be performed by the Loyal American Legion post. Pallbearers will be Edward Kadlec, Roy Rueth, Jerry, Tim, and Ralph Schmidt, and Donny Becker. Members of the American Legion will serve as honorary pallbearers.

Visitation will be Sunday at the Rinka Funeral Home, Loyal, where a Parish Council of Catholic Women rosary will be held Sunday, followed by a general rosary and a Knights of Columbus rosary.

He was born September 11, 1930, in the town of York, to John and Christine Schmidt and attended Pleasantville School.

He married Betty Jane Jordan, November 16, 1954, at Holy Family Catholic Church, Willard. She survives. He was employed at General Motors in Janesville and then was self-employed as a carpenter and farmed in the town of York since 1954.

He had served in the Korean War from 1951-1953, and received the Korean Service Medal with two bronze service stars.

He was a member of the American Legion, which he served as past commander, the 40 & 8 Voiture 821, of which he was presently the correspondent, the Knights of Columbus, Our Lady of Fatima Council. St. Anthony's Church and the Loyal Corn Festival Committee.

Surviving, besides his wife, are nine daughters, Mrs. Charles (Brenda) Rueth of Loyal, Mrs. Randy (Barbara) Horn of greenwood, Mrs. Felix (Bernadette) Vasquez of Panama, Mrs. Erwin "Pete" (Bonnie) Erickson of Neillsville, Mrs. Thomas (Betty Jean) Shaw of Marshfield, Beverly Schmidt of Wausau, and Becky and Bridgett, both at home; four sons, Bruce, Brian, Bradley and Benjamin, all at home; his mother Mrs. Christine Schmidt of Loyal; seven brothers, Joseph and Verlan, both of Neillsville, Paul of Pearson, George of Janesville, Robert and Anthony, both of Milton, and Henry of Neillsville; two sisters, Mrs. Eddie (Florence) Rueth of Loyal and Mrs. Clarence (Sally) Becker of Neillsville, and 10 grandchildren.

He was predeceased by his father, a son, Barry and a grandson.
