Clarence William Zier (2 Dec 1908 - 25 Oct 1989)

Clarence William Zier, 80, Dorchester, died at 10:40 a.m. Wednesday at his home. Services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at St. Peter Lutheran Church, Dorchester, with the Rev. Ed Olson officiating. Burial will be in Dorchester Memorial Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Howard and Russell Bedroske, Clyde Broeske, Roger Treffert and Clarence and Albert Schultz.

He was born Dec. 2, 1908, in Watertown, to Julius and Bertha Zier. He was a graduate of Watertown High School and the University of Wisconsin, Whitewater. He also did graduate work at Greeley University, Colorado.

He married Wilma Sabaska, June 5, 1937 in Watertown. He taught school in Nebraska and Wisconsin, including 12 years at Dorchester and nine years at Prentice. He retired in 1974. He also worked as an accountant at Jensen Motors, Spencer, and H & H Motors, Colby, and did private accounting work.

He was a member of the Dor-Abby School Board from 1962-65. He was also a member of St. Peter Lutheran Church and had served as president and treasurer of the congregation. He had been a volunteer at Bethesda in Wausau for more than 10 years.

He is survived by his wife; two sons, Sam (Linnea) of Abbotsford and Dan (Diane) of Dorchester; three daughters, Janis McCarron of Colby, Mrs. Rebecca (Sid) Johnson of Tucson, Ariz., and Mrs. Debra (Louis) Murray of Black River Falls; five brothers, Art of Stanley, Ray and Herb, both of Watertown, and Harold and Eddie, both of Milwaukee; five sisters, Edna Bretzmann, Beatrice Krisinske, Leona Kuske, Lillian Wilde and Norma Barganz, all of Watertown; and nine grandchildren.

He was predeceased by his parents and infant twin granddaughters.
