William “Bill” L. Paul (9 Mar 1938 – 13 May 2007)

William “Bill” L. Paul, age 69 of Wausau, passed away on Sunday, May 13, 2007 at Aspirus Wausau Hospital under the care of Aspirus Comfort Care and Hospice Services.

Bill as born on March 9, 1938 in Dorchester, Wis., son of the late Albert and Vernice (Raymond) Paul. On June 6, 1964 he married June Zachow in Appleton. He served his country in the United States Army. He attended the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point where he received his bachelor’s degree, and then went on to earn his master’s degree in education and administration at UW-Superior. Bill dedicated his life to educating others. He worked as a teacher, principal and administrator for the Wausau School District for 34 years. After retiring, Bill continued to work part-time for the school district. He was president of the Wisconsin Retired Education Assoc. and Marathon County Retired Educators Assoc. He was also an active member of Kiwanis. In 2006 he was honored with an award from the National Retired Teachers Assoc. for establishing a project to rebuild the D’Iberville school library in Mississippi following hurricane Katrina. Bill loved spending time with family at his cabin in Boulder Junction. He also enjoyed fishing, gardening and traveling.

Survivors include his wife, June Paul of Wausau, two daughters, Kristin (J.F.) Burton of Bloomington, Ind., and Amy (Steve) Wheeler of Boulder Junction; five grandchildren, Katie, Courtney and Elizabeth Burton, and Harrison and Cassidy Wheeler; a brother, Robert (Marion) Pau; of Abbotsford; two sisters, Bonnie (Galen) Bergmann of Athens and Dorothy (Robert) Grinker of Dorchester; a sister-in-law, Joan Paul of Dorchester; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his brother, Kenneth Paul.

Memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, May 19, 2007 at the First United Methodist Church, Wausau. Rev. Jerry Morris and Rev. Karen Ebert will officiate.
