Cormican, Allen E. (1 January 1936 – 28 November 1975)

Funeral services were held Monday afternoon in Merrillan for Allen E. Cormican, 39, of Merrillan, who was killed in a car-train accident shortly before noon last Friday at a grade crossing of the Green Bay and Western Railroad east of Hatfield.

Cormican, operator of the Cormican Bar in Merrillan, and a substitute mail carrier, was engaged in delivery of mail at the time of the accident. His car was struck by the engine and was pulled under its undercarriage. A wrecker from Granton took an hour or more to pull the wreckage from beneath and clear the track.

The engine on No. 2 was damaged in the mishap, but there was no other injury. The train was pulling 37 cars.

Cormican was born January 1, 1936, in Merrillan to George and Emma Cormican. After graduation from Lincoln High School in Alma Center, he joined the Air Force, retiring in 1974 after 20 years of service. He returned to Merrillan, where he operated the Cormican Bar.

He married Jane Gilbertson of Merrillan on June 12, 1954.

Survivors include: his widow, Jane; his mother, Mrs. Emma Cormican of Merrillan; two sons, Keith, at home and Bruce, with the Air Force in England; a daughter, Mrs. Jim (Cathy) Manhart of McGuire Air Force Base, N.J.; three brothers Kenneth of Altoona, George of Brookfield and Richard of Milwaukee, four sisters, Mrs. Bud (Marie) Borowski of Minneapolis, Mrs. Richard (Donna) Girouard of Merrillan, Mrs. Richard (Betty) Wagner of Janesville and Mrs. Norman (Shirley) Heller of Black River Falls.

The Rev. Calvin Carey of the Merrillan United Methodist Church presided at services from the church Monday afternoon. Burial was made in Riverside Cemetery at Black River Falls.
