Elmer C. Krueger (13 Jan 1914 – 2 Mar 1995)

Elmer C. Krueger, 81, of 400 River Drive, Wausau, died Thursday, March 2, 1995, at Wausau Hospital Hospice Unit.

He was born Jan. 13, 1914 in Wausau, the son of the late Paul C. and Selma (Schult) Krueger. He married Isabelle Hintz on July 10, 1937, at St. John’s Lutheran Church, town of Easton.

Elmer attended the Rural Forestville School in the town of Easton, Wausau High School. And was a graduate of the Marathon County Normal. He also attended some special classes at Stevens Point College. He was a member of the Ringle 4-H Club for one year, it was changed to Badger 4-H Club of which he was a member for many years and also its leader for several years.

He taught rural schools from 1934 to 1943 in Marathon County. He began as a clerk in a grocery store in Mosinee and moved to Superior and became manager of Wentworth Farmers Co-operative and a branch manager of the Hawthorne Co-operative. While there, Elmer was a director of Associated Co-operatives at Maple, Wis., and was a member of Douglas County Farmers Union.

In 1947, his family moved to Butternut, where he was manager of Farmers Co-operative Exchange until 1953. Elmer was also a member of Price County Grocer’s Association and secretary of Butternut Equity Co-op. In 1955, Elmer and Isabelle built Krueger’s Super Market, Dorchester, which they operated until 1977.

Elmer also served on the Village Board, was a charter member of the Dorchester Lions Club and served as secretary and treasurer for six years. His other activities included secretary of Dorchester Development Corp., member of Dorchester Park Association and Dorchester Days.

Elmer and Isabelle retired in 1977 and moved to Schofield. There he enjoyed indoor and outdoor plants and participating in the Central Wisconsin Aquarium Society.

Survivors besides his wife, Isabelle, include one son, Donald (Becky) Krueger, Stoughton; two daughters, Fern (Sheldon) Satter, Hancock, Mich., and Ruth (Bruce) Eastenson, Eau Claire; seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren; he came from a family of seven children, five boys and two girls, Paul Krueger Jr., San Antino, Texas, and Esther (Donald) Seis, Antigo; Gilbert, Herman, Clarence and Lillian preceded him in death. He was preceded in death by one son, Thomas E. Krueger.

Funeral services will be at 3:30 p.m. Sunday, March 5, 1995, at Grace Evangelical Lutheran Church, Ringle.
