Christenson, Oscar John (26 January 1897-20 April 1920)

Oscar J Christensen died at the Marshfield hospital in Tuesday afternoon, 20th, at the age of 22 years. By his death the uncertainty of life is again most forcibly brought to mind and that the king was shadows loves a shining mark. When the sad news reached this community that had Oscar passed away, many expressions sorrow could be heard and tender sympathies spoken for the stricken relatives and friends. He could be called everybody’s friends as his sunny, happy disposition, truly made a friend of everyone he came in contact with.

Avoid in the home has been left that can never be filled. The pen seems to blunt and type too cold for us to adequately express our deep sympathy for the bereaved family. It may be, however, some consolation to them know that he was respected by the entire community. The writer in her humble way gladly pays tribute to one she is known since childhood.

He was the 2nd son of Mr. and Mrs. Martin J Christensen, was born and March Rapids, January 24, 1898. He came to Loyal with his parents in 1899 and has lived here ever since with the exception of the 6 months service. He enlisted in Aviation Corps and was ready to go overseas when peace was declared.

He is survived by his parents and 2 brothers, Frank M. and James of Loyal, besides other relatives and a host of friends.

Funeral services were held at the Catholic Church in this village Friday morning. Solemn high mass was celebrated by the pastor, Rev. Joseph F. Stenz, assisted by 2 priests from away. Services were largely attended. About 30 ex-service men and the band attended in a body. Burial was in the Catholic Cemetery. As a mark of respect every business house closed from 8 to 11 o’clock.

It is very seldom that so many beautiful floral designs and flowers are seen as surrounded his bier, there being many friends from away as well as many other relatives and friends.
