Szymanski, Helen (4 OCT 1889 – 5 AUG 1972)

Helen Szymanski, 82, passed away of a heart attack at her home Saturday, August 5, 1972.

Rosary was recited by the Altar Rosary Society at 2 o’clock, Parish Rosary at 8:30. Helen was a member of the Altar Rosary Society.

Funeral services were held at St. Hedwig’s Chapel on Tuesday, August 8, with Father John Puerner officiating at the 10 a.m. service. Interment was in the Parish Cemetery (Old St. Hedwig’s). Pallbearers were Peter Wnek, Tom Gunia, Ignatius Przybylski, Charles Deniszkiewicz, Val Wyczawski, and John Wnek.

Helen Szymanski was born October 4, 1889 in Winnipeg, Canada, the daughter of Dominic and Anna Slota. She came to the United States at the age of 3, lived at Thorp (Clark Co., Wis.) until October 4, 1911, when she married Ignatz Szymanski in Chicago, Illinois. There they operated a Grocery and Meat Market for several years. They then moved to Thorp and farmed until retirement in 1952.

Surviving are two sons, Arthur of Thorp, Louis of Chicago, Illinois; one daughter (Edna) Mrs. Stanley Rogalski of Chicago, Illinois; two brothers, Bernard Slota of Gilman, Wisconsin, Joe Slota, Minneapolis, Minnesota. Helen had seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Ignatz, two sisters, Mary Kurowski and Anna Ulick; one brother, John Slota.

Friends and relatives attending the funeral from out of town were from Chicago, Illinois, Florissant, Missouri, Round Lake, Illinois, Milwaukee, Stevens Point, New Richmond and Chetek Wisconsin, Minneapolis and Mound Minnesota, Gilman, Stanley, and Wausau, Wisconsin.
