Sarafin, Frank S. (28 JUL 1934 – 24 FEB 2020)

Frank S. Sarafin, age 85, of Thorp, passed away on Monday, February 24, 2020, at the Wisconsin Veterans [ome in Chippewa Falls. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, March 7, 2020, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Bernard-St. Hedwig Catholic Church in Thorp with Rev. Baskaran Sandhiyagu officiating. Private interment will be held at a later date. Visitation will be held at the church on Saturday, March 7, 2020, from 9:30 a.m. until time of service.

Frank Stanley Sarafin was born on July 28, 1934, in the Town of Roosevelt, rural Lublin, the son of Michael and Eleanor (Malinowski) Sarafin. He was raised on the family farm, educated at area schools, and graduated from Gilman High School in 1952. After completing his Ibk education, Frank worked in the Civilian Conservation Corp Camps and then went to Superior, WI at worked on a Merchant Marine ship. He enlisted in the U.S. Army on March 6, 1957, until his honorable discharge on March 5, 1959. He was united in marriage to Laura F. Placzkowski on September 25, 1959, at St. Hedwig's Chapel in Thorp. They moved to Milwaukee for one year before returning to Thorp to raise their family. He worked as a Deputy Sheriff for the Clark County Sheriff's Department for many years, until retiring in 1988. His last job, as the manager of the Rock Dam Campground for 19 years, gave him much enjoyment. After retiring, Frank spent his time around his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren

He had many interests, but especially enjoyed hunting fishing, woodworking, bowling and playing sports.

He was a member of St. Bernard-St. Hedwig Catholic Church, the Knights of Columbus Queen of Peace Council #4634, the Thorp Goggle Eye Trap Club, the Rock Dam Rod & Gun Club, and was a volunteer fireman for the Thorp Fire Department.

Frank is survived by his five children: Donald Sarafin of St. Paul, MN, Dale (Sheila) Sarafin of River Falls, Stewart (Deb) Sarafin of Stanley, Corinne (Douglas) Gustafson of Stanley, and Patrick Sarafin of Cadott; 14 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; one sister, Sophie Kurdis of Chicago; two sisters-in-law: Bernice (Cedric) Solie of Thorp, and Josephine Sarafin of Thorp; one brother-in-law, Leon (Pauline) Placzkowski of Port Ludlow, WA; nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.

He is preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Laura F. Sarafin on March 19, 2019; his son, Scott Sarafin, his step- granddaughter, Elizabeth Miner; and four brothers: John, Ed, Harold and Joe Sarafin.
