Walter, Peggy (Retiring Register of Deeds – 3 Jan. 2021)

Peggy Walter, Clark County Register of Deeds, has announced her intent to retire as register of deeds at the end of her current term. The term will officially end Jan. 3, 2021.

In a press release, Walter stated that in in addition to fulfilling the daily statutory duties of the office during the past seven years, she has overseen the completion of several major projects intended to improve the daily workflow of the Register of Deeds office. Walter further stated that these projects created opportunities for customers to search document information related to their Clark County land records online and streamlined the process for those professional service providers who utilize the office, such as title companies, attorneys and financial institutions.

Some of the projects included scanning 143 volumes of deed record books, 28 tract index books and 60 grantor/grantee index books and importing the scanned images into the county records system for online viewing by the public. Another project was scanning of 14 vital records index books, which are not available online. “The benefits of having record books scanned and digitized is two-fold,” Walter wrote. “These projects not only make the records available for convenient access by the public from any computer, they also create another resource if a disaster relief recovery situation should arise such as fire or water damage to the bound record books housed in the office.”

In 2015, the office commenced the process of recording documents submitted to the office via electronic format.

“This was a major accomplishment as electronic recording offers substantial benefits to customers in the form of cost savings, productivity gains and the immediate return of recorded document images to the submitter by electronic means,” Walter stated.

Walter said that her tenure at Register of Deeds has been and continued to be a positive experience.

“I truly enjoy serving the citizens of Clark County as their Register of Deeds,” said Walter. “I have also been and continue to be extremely proud of the work ethic and level of service the Register of Deeds staff provides to the public.”
