Alexander, John W. "Jack" (22 FEB 1935 – 29 DEC 2019)

John (Jack) W. Alexander, age 84, of Medford passed away Sunday, Dec. 29, 2019, at Deerview Meadows Assisted Living in Medford.

John was born in Glidden on Feb. 22, 1935, to Peter and Ella (Schraufnagel) Alexander. The family moved to Abbotsford in 1937. He attended Abbotsford grade and high schools. He attended UW-Eau Claire for two years and then entered the U.S. Army in 1955. He spent three years in the Army Special Forces. He returned to UW-Eau Claire and graduated in May 1960. He married Gertrude (Trudy) Meinke on July 25, 1959. John taught high school in Elmwood and at Medford Senior High. He was head baseball coach at Medford for many years. After teaching, he ran the Tastee-Treat and Countryside Restaurant.

He also was a credit manager for Stetsonville Oil Company, retiring in 2018. John loved baseball and spent the last years following his grandson’s ball games – attending almost every game they played. He was a member of the Stetsonville American Legion.

John is survived by his wife of 60 years, Trudy; four children: Sue (Richard) Dashek of Medford, Mark (Tracie) of Kronenwetter, Daniel of Medford, and Kurt (Kathy) of Medford; ten grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents and sisters, Jean Weix and Alice Beck.

A funeral service will be held Friday, Jan. 3, 2020, at Trinity Lutheran Church, Whittlesey. Visitation will be at 9 a.m. and service at 11 a.m. with Pastor Gary Ludholz presiding. Burial will be at a later date in Medford Evergreen II Cemetery.
