2019 Graduation is rapidly approaching and the senior class has been busy making
plans for their graduation. They have ordered their caps and gowns,
announcements and they are planning their graduation parties. Every year with
the conclusion of the first semester, the top academic students in the senior
class hold their breath in hope that they will have the honor of being the top
student in their graduating class. This year we are happy to announce that Kayla
Johnson, daughter of Duane and Charlotte Johnson, will be the Class of 2019
valedictorian. Alaina Strey, daughter of Jason and Julie Strey, will be the
Class of 2019 Salutatorian. Congratulations to both of them for their
outstanding academic record over the past four years!
Kayla Johnson, Granton Area School’s Class of 2019 valedictorian
My name is Kayla Johnson, and my parents are Duane and Charlotte Johnson. I am
the valedictorian of Granton’s 2019 graduating class. Throughout high school I
have been involved in many different activities and organizations including FFA,
National Honor Society, Spanish Club, student council and basketball. Although
my schedule can sometimes get crazy, I have found the perfect balance between
life and schoolwork including several college classes. All of these classes and
activities have helped me to grow as a person, and become more prepared for the
future that lies ahead.
Alaina Strey, Granton Area School’s Class of 2019 salutatorian
My name is Alaina M. Strey and I am the class of 2019 salutatorian for Granton
High School. My parents are Jason and Julie Strey and I have three younger
siblings also attending Granton (Kristin, Alex, and Kaiden). While attending
Granton High School, I participated in many extra-curricular activities. I was
involved in student council (where I served as president, vice-president, and
secretary), National Honor Society, FFA, and Varsity Club. I have played Granton
basketball since fourth grade and have served as varsity captain for the last
three years. I also play varsity baseball. Throughout my high school career, I
have maintained High Honors in academics, as well. Outside of school, I served
as 2017- 18 Fall Fest Queen, and volunteered in my church and at the Granton
Fire Department. I enjoy traveling, spending time with my family, watching
movies and baseball. I plan to attend UW-Stevens Point at Marshfield before
transferring to UW-Superior or UW-Eau Claire to pursue elementary education with
a double minor in Spanish and social studies.
