Smith, Melvin R. (18 July 1930-24 April 1999)
Melvin R. Smith, 3128 N. Morrison Street, Appleton, age 68, died
Saturday, April 24, 1999. He was born in Humbird, Wisconsin, on July 18,
1930, the son of the late Steve and Matie (Staves) Smith. Melvin served
with the U.S. Navy and was discharged in 1955. On June 29, 1957, he
married Gladys Lehmann in Granton, Wisconsin. Melvin and Gladys moved to
Appleton shortly after their marriage and have been members of Faith
Lutheran Church for 41 years. Melvin worked for Ameritech as a
supervisor for 36 years, retiring in 1991. He greatly enjoyed
woodworking and made many items to be sold at church bazaars. Melvin
shared his woodworking talent when needed with various projects at
church. When he was no longer able to do woodworking, he enjoyed doing
Survivors include his wife, Gladys; two sons, Todd Smith, Farmington
Hills, Michigan, and Brian Smith, Kimberly; a daughter and son-in-law,
Simonie and James Kolarik, Dallas, Texas; a grandson, Brandon; a
brother, Everett (Betty) Smith, Phillips; a sister, Ida Potvin, Oakdale,
Minnesota: his mother-in-law, Edna Lehman, Bayfield; also nieces,
nephews, other relatives and friends. In addition to his parents he was
preceded in death by his brother-in-law, Dennis Potvin.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, April 27, 1999 at Faith
Lutheran Church, 601 E. Glendale Avenue, with the Rev. Paul R. Brinkman
officiating. Interment will follow at Highland Memorial Park. A memorial
fund is being established for Faith Lutheran Church.
