Mary Ann Weix (31 Jul 1908 - 28 Apr 1998)

Mary Ann Weix, 89, Abbotsford, died April 28, 1998, at the Continental Manor Nursing Home in Abbotsford where she had resided since February of 1998.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at St. Bernard’s Catholic Church in Abbotsford with the Rev. Al Jakubowski officiating.

Burial will be in St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery in Colby. Serving as pallbearers will be her grandsons and grandsons-in-law, Mike Haas, Chad Bach, Randy Weix, Dean Bender, Steven Bach, Mike Weix, Larry Weiler and Allen Bach.

Visitation will be after 4 p.m. Friday at the Maurina Funeral Home in Abbotsford. There will be a Prayer Service at 7:30 p.m. with Sister Mary Jo Donaldson.

The former Mary Ann Henke was born July 31, 1908, in Thorp, the daughter of Louis and Louise (nee Baldeschwiler) Henke. She attended the Busy Bee School and also St. Bernard’s Catholic School in Thorp. A graduate of Thorp High School, Mary then attended Eau Claire Teachers College and taught in area rural schools for three years.

On Oct. 19, 1931, Mary and Lawrence Otto Weix were united in marriage at St. Bernard’s Catholic Church in Thorp. After marriage the young couple farmed in the town of Mayville, rural Abbotsford, for 45 years. They retired in 1976 and moved to the city of Abbotsford.

Mary was an original member of the Clovernook Homemakers. She was also a member of St. Bernard’s Catholic Church in Abbotsford and its Parish Council of Catholic Women. She enjoyed her garden and crocheting.

Survivors include her son, Ronald (Agnes) Weix of Richfield, daughter Marlene (Irvin) Bach of Dorchester, nine grandchildren, Steven Bach, Allen Bach, Sue Bender, Lori Haas, Carolyn Weiler, Randy Weix, Greg Weix, Mike Weix and Janey Bezanson; 15 great-grandchildren; and her sister Veronica (John) Freisinger of La Crosse.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Lawrence Weix, on Oct. 30, 1985; by her parents, and two sisters.
