Carl Fischer (24 Jan 1904 - 23 Aug 1997)
Carl Fredrick Fischer, 93, Colby died Aug. 23, 1997, at Colonial House Nursing
and Rehabilitation Center, Colby. Funeral services were held Aug. 26 at Zion
Lutheran Church, Colby. Burial was in St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery, town of
Colby, Clark County. Rev. Mark Neumann officiated.
Suzie Fischer was the soloist. Pallbearers were Charles Diedrich, Delmar
Fischer, David Loomis, James Friemund, Donald Leichtnam, and Kenneth Cole.
Honorary pallbearers were Valgene Fischer Jr., Mark Fischer, Robert Friemund,
Sonny Schultz, Ambrose Schuh, and Norbert Diedrich.
Carl was born Jan. 24, 1904 in Baumgarth, Germany, to Adolph and Elizabeth
(Urban) Fischer. His family came to America in April 1907. They landed in
Galveston, Tex. His father worked for a farmer in Newton, Kan., until 1918, when
they came to Wisconsin. Carl attended school in Kansas and Wisconsin. He worked
for various farmers in the area. In 1927 he started to haul milk for the White
House Milk Co., which he did for 18 years. He then hauled gravel and granite.
On May 25, 1933, at Christ Lutheran Church, Abbotsford, he married Tudie Schultz
and they enjoyed 64 years of marriage. They have four children: Valgene (Marie)
Fischer, Sr., of Colby; Patsy Lang of Fountain Valley, Cal.; Janice (James)
Heindl of Abbotsford; and Bonnie (Jerry) Zygowicz of Colby; 14 grandchildren, 26
great-grandchildren; eight brothers- and sisters-in-law:
Lambert Van Roy; Clyde Schultz; Clarence (Verna) Schultz; Carmen (Clyde)
Broeske; Lorna Schmelzer; Merle Cole; and Lucille Waldhardt.
He was preceded in death by his parents; five brothers: August, Herman, William,
Fred, and Walter; and four sisters: Anna, Margaret, Lena and Edna.
