Bruner, Derald Wayne (11OCT 1931 - 16 AUG 2015)
Derald Wayne Bruner 83 passed away peacefully on Sunday August 16, 2015 at
Ladysmith Care & Rehab Center.
Derald was born October 11, 1931 in Spooner to Herbert O. and Inez Marge
(McGraw) Bruner. He delivered paper, was a bus boy, pinsetter and worked at a
cannery. He graduated from Spooner High School in 1949.
He served two years in the National Guard and U.S. Navy from 1951-55. He was on
the USS Valley Forge for a short tour and on the USS Tarawa, going around the
world for almost a year during the Korea War. He was proud to serve his country.
Derald and Bonietta (Pieper) were married on September 18, 1954 at St. Matthew's
Lutheran Church in Stoddard. He worked for Bell Telephone and Ameritech for 34
years as a lineman and cable splicer. After retiring he worked for DNR, manning
towers looking for smoke which he enjoyed very much.
He delivered Meals on Wheels for a short time.
He was a life member of VFW Post 2490. He served as an Honor Guard member at
military funerals. He was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church, serving as an
usher and member of the Finance Committee.
Survivors include his wife of 60 years, 3 daughters, 6 grandchildren, 2 step
grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren, 2 sisters and 2 sisters-in-law and many
nieces and nephews.
Proceeding him in death were his parents and an infant brother.
Funeral Service will be at 11AM Saturday August 22 at St. John's Lutheran Church
with Rev. Craig Zandi officiating. Family will receive friends at Nash-Jackan
Funeral Home in Ladysmith on Friday from 4-7PM and also at the church on
Saturday for an hour prior to service time.
Burial with military honors provided by the Ladysmith Veterans Association will
be in Riverside Cemetery.
