Birkett, Mildred Mae (Foemmel) (28 APR 1926 - 27 OCT 2018)

Mildred Mae Birkett, age 92, of Colby, died peacefully in the presence of her loving family on Saturday, Oct. 27, 2018, at Mala Strana Rehabilitation Center in New Prague, Minn.

Mildred was born on April 28, 1926, in Freemont Township, to Walter and Viola (Dahl) Foemmel. She was raised in the Chili area and graduated from Loyal High School. She married Willis Birkett on July 24, 1946, in Granton, and the couple made their home in Colby, where they raised their seven children.

Mildred’s interests and activities revolved around her family and the making of her home. She was a member of the Homemakers Club in Colby and enjoyed quilting, crocheting and knitting. She gardened and loved cooking and canning the fruits of her garden, and was known for her dinner buns. She was a woman who always looked for the positive in life and enjoyed nothing more than time spent with her family.

Mildred is survived by her children, Roger (Patty) Birkett of Madison, Dale (Marcia) Birkett of Fall River, Susan (Leo) Joubert of Waterville, Minn., Duane (Terry) Birkett of Kronenwetter, Sherri (Dave) Ohnsted of Duluth, Minn., and Lynette (Christian) Brandt of New Prague, Minn.; sister-in-law, Olive Foemmel of New London, Minn.; 15 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Willis, on Feb. 23, 2004; son, Arlan Birkett; sister, Irene Smazel; and brothers, Walter and Gilbert Foemmel.

There will be a graveside service on Saturday, Nov. 10, 2018, at 11:30 a.m. at Colby Cemetery in Colby.
