Paur, Gladys E. (Brecke) (24 MAR 1926 - 27 OCT 2018)

Gladys E. Paur, 92, a former Town of Browning resident, passed away on Saturday, Oct 27, 2018, at Aspirus Care and Rehab, Medford, where she had resided for almost 3 years most recently under the care of Hope Hospice.

Services will be held at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, October 30 at Zion Ev. Lutheran Church, Stetsonville, with Rev Richard Russow officiating. Visitation will take place from 4-7 PM on Monday, October 29 at Hemer Funeral Home, Medford, and also at church from 10 AM until the time of services at 11 AM on Tuesday, October 30. Interment will take place at Evergreen Cemetery, Medford.

Serving as pallbearers will be grandsons, Tyler & Brayden Paur, Adam Smith, Josh, Connor & Zach Wierschke.

Gladys was born March 24, 1926, one of 9 children of William and Bertha (Richwalski) Brecke in the Township of Deer Creek near Stetsonville, WI. Gladys attended Pleasant Valley Elementary School in the Town of Deer Creek, and was a 1943 graduate of Dorchester High School. She attended a secretarial school in Madison, Wisconsin for 6 months. She returned to the Medford area and was employed at the County Superintendent of Schools office. After the death of her Mother in 1945, Gladys took a leave of absence to be at home to help with housekeeping and the care of her younger siblings. She returned to her job after several months.

On June 12, 1948, Gladys married Emil C. Paur at Zion Ev. Lutheran Church in Stetsonville and he preceded her in death on Nov 5, 2015.

Together they raised six children on the Paur dairy farm near Gad in the Town of Browning. Gladys enjoyed gardening, quilting and was an excellent seamstress. She was a lifetime member of Zion Ev. Lutheran Church, Stetsonville, along with its Ladies Aid. She was active in Sunny Hill Homemakers group of Gad and assisted with the Gad Go Getters 4-H Club. She also was a Town of Browning poll worker at many elections.

Gladys is survived by her children Starla (Jerry) Siegmann of Milwaukee, Bryan (Carol) Paur of Menomonie, WI, Mitchell Paur of Medford, Jill (David) Smith of Medford, Leslie (Carol) Paur, Delavan, WI, and Cynthia (Mark) Wierschke of West Salem, WI. She is also survived by 15 grandchildren, 4 great-grandchildren, and sisters Annabelle Holme of New Berlin, Elva (Norman) Larson of Waupaca, WI, and sisters-in-law Sharon Brecke of Owen, WI and Helen Hirsch of Delavan, WI.

In addition to her husband and parents, Gladys was preceded in death by brothers and sisters, Vernon Brecke, Myron Brecke, Audrey Vircks, Stella Brecke, Myrtle Bedroske, and Mary Ann Brecke (in infancy).

The family requests memorial contributions to be given to the family for a future designation.
