Drinkwater, Juanita E. (1 MAR 1896 – 28 AUG 1971)

Juanita Evelyn Ferry was born March 1, 1896 to Orin Silas and Della May (Usher) Ferry at Vermillion, South Dakota. She was married to William Jennings Drinkwater at Duluth, Minnesota on October 16, 1916. After residing at Spooner, Wisconsin a short period, where Mr. Drinkwater worked on the railroad, they moved back to Huron, South Dakota, where he worked on the railroad, which included the World War I period. They lived on a farm southeast of Huron.

Their children are: Mrs. Ted Heagle (Maxine), Oregon City, Oregon; Mrs. Eldon Ropaich (Vesta) of Shawano, Wisconsin; Mrs. Earl Ropaich (Leverene) of Shawano; Mr. Walter Mudget (Carol) of San Luis Obispo, California; Mrs. Robert Lindsay (Joyce) of Silverton, Oregon; and Mrs. Ralph Raney (Clara) of Oregon City, Oregon. A son, Larry, died as an infant in 1941. Mr. Drinkwater died in 1964 at La Grande, Oregon while the family was enroute home to Oregon City, Oregon from a camping trip.

Drinkwaters lived in the Town of Rod, and then later in the Town of Cleveland, Taylor County, Wisconsin from the early 1920’s to the 1940’s, when they moved to Oregon City, Oregon. Mrs. Drinkwater died their August 28, 1971, after a three day illness.

Among other survivors, besides the six daughters, are two sisters, Mrs. Cyril L. Raeder (Elsie) of Clackamas, Oregon, and Mrs. George Groves (Bernice) in Illinois, and also 18 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren.

Her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Orin Ferry preceded her in death and are buried in Gilman. Also a brother, Reverend Lee Ferry of Milwaukee, died there two years ago.
