Nieminen, Sanni (9 June 1882 – 20 March 1975)

Mrs. John (Sanni) Nieminen, 92, formerly of the Withee area, died March 20 at Medicana Nursing Center, Lake Worth, Fl., where she had been a patient one and one-half months with pacemaker and old age complications. A pacemaker was installed in 1966 and she was on her fifth powerpack at the time of her death.

Mrs. Nieminen, the former Sanni Santalas, was born June 9, 1882, in Kokemaki, Finland, and came to Calumet, Mi., in 1909, where she was married to John Nieminen on December 30, 1910.

The Nieminens came to the Finnish settlement six miles northwest of Withee in 1913 and farmed there until 1945 when they retired to Florida. Mrs. Nieminen acted as a midwife and veterinarian at the early settlement near Clark.

Survivors, in addition to her husband John, in Lake Worth, include two daughters: Mrs. Theo (Tyrne) Kalbon of Lake Worth and Mrs. Martin (Vieno) Keskimaki of Withee; four grandchildren: Klay, Dale and Kurt Keskimaki and Carl Decker, and six great-grandchildren.

Services were held at Lakeside Funeral Home, Lake Worth, March 22. Her ashes will be interred in the family plot at Riverside Cemetery, rural Withee.
