Bruchert, Ben (3 FEB 1883 – 16 FEB 1972)
At 11 o'clock Saturday forenoon, February 19, 1972, funeral services were
conducted from St. Katherine's Episcopal Church, Owen, for Benhardt Albert "Ben"
Bruchert. The Rev. Alexander Fraser, pastor of the parish, was in charge of the
service, and burial was made at Riverside Cemetery.
Serving as pallbearers were Wm. Ridpath, Louis Burhop, Bert Cattanach, J.R.
Barager, Merle Harlson, and E.W. Sutter.
Mr. Bruchert succumbed to complications of old age at St. Joseph's Hospital,
Marshfield, on the 16th of February. He had been admitted to the hospital the
previous day.
Benhardt Albert Bruchert was born February 3, 1883 in Germany and had attained
the age of 89 years and 13 days. He came to the United States when a tot of
three years of age, making his home with his parents at Glenwood City. He came
to Owen (Clark Co., Wis.) in 1906 and was associated with the lumber industry,
and the John S. Owen Lumber Company. On June 21, 1911 he and the former Tena
Andersen were united in marriage in a ceremony performed in the Congregational
Church in Owen. He worked in the lumber company store for 23 years, and after
the closing of the mill and store, worked for two or three years at the
Meadowview Country Club, and then became custodian in the Owen school system, a
position he held for 26 years before retiring.
"Ben," as he was affectionately known by a wide circle of friends, was the
possessor of a most pleasant personality, and had the friendship of every
student that went through the Owen system while he was there, and the respect of
all faculty members. He was a very devout member of St. Katherine's parish for
practically all of the 86 years he lived in Owen.
His passing is mourned by his wife Tena and a daughter, Mrs. Royal (Elizabeth)
Bacon of Monroe.
He was preceded in death by two sisters and a brother.
