Fischer, Kenneth John (18 MAR 1963 – 22 SEP 1973)
Kenneth Fischer, the 10-year-old son of Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence Fischer of Route
1, Spencer, was fatally injured last Saturday afternoon when he apparently was
thrown from the tractor he was driving.
He was driving the tractor north on the town road near the Fischer farm and
pulling a chopper wagon. He apparently lost control of the tractor as the right
side of the tractor went into the ditch. Kenneth was run over by the chopper
wagon on the east outer edge of the ditch. The tractor reportedly continued into
the nearby field for a bout a quarter of a mile before overturning. The chopper
box was found a short distance from where the boy lay.
The Spencer Ambulance was called to the scene at 12:32 p.m. and took the boy to
St. Joseph's Hospital, where he was pronounced dead of head injuries on arrival.
There were no apparent witnesses to the accident. The Fischer farm is located 5
miles east of Spencer on County Truck C, and then about 1 mile north. The
Marathon County Sheriff's Department investigated the accident. Spencer Police
Chief James Mondloch was the first to be called to the scene and notified the
ambulance.
Funeral service for Kenneth John Fischer were held at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Christ
the King Catholic Church in Spencer. Burial was made in the West Spencer
Cemetery. The Rev. Father Andrew Bofenkamp officiated at the service. A rosary
service was held Monday evening at the Rux Funeral Home.
Pallbearers were Larry Hamus, David Schneider, Mike Schneider, Kurt Bodenorfer,
Robert Felton and Avid Felton. Fifth grade classmates of Kenneth and teacher
from the Spencer Public Schools attended the funeral as an honorary group.
Kenneth Fischer was born March 28, 1963 at St. Joseph's hospital in Marshfield.
He was a fifth grade student at the Spencer Grade School, and had lived all his
life in the Spencer area. He was a member of Christ the King Catholic Church.
He is survived by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence Fischer, Route 1, Spencer;
a brother, Larry Fischer, Fort Collins, Colorado; two sisters, Mrs. Richard
(Judith) Hargegen, West Bend, and Sharon Fischer, at home; paternal
grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. William Fischer, Route 1, Spencer; and his maternal
grandmother, Mrs. Rose Eisner, Marshfield.
