Gamble, Ida (11 March 1890 – 29 November 1974)

Funeral services were held Monday at 1:30 p.m. from the Georgas Funeral Home for Mrs. Ida Strey Gamble of Memorial Home who died November 29 at the age of 84. The Rev. William Humlie of Trinity Lutheran Church, Loyal, officiated and burial followed in the Neillsville City Cemetery.

Mrs. Gamble, the daughter of Ernest and Caroline (Creneweet) Thomas, was born March 11, 1890, at Fowler, In., and came to Clark County at the age of three with her parents. The family settled on a farm in the Town of Washburn, and she attended the Cannonville School.

Her first marriage was to Albert Strey. The couple farmed in the Town of York for over 30 years, then moved to West Allis to work in the defense plants.

Following Mr. Strey’s death, his widow moved to Waukegan, Il., where she managed a retirement home for five years.

Her second marriage was to John Gamble. The Gambles lived in Waukegan, where he presently resides, for the 12 years preceding her retirement. At that time, Mrs. Gamble moved to Loyal where she lived before entering Memorial Home. She was a former member of Trinity Lutheran Church and of its Ladies Aid Society.

Survivors, in addition to her husband, include two children, Arthur Strey of Loyal and Stanley Gamble of Bristol, Il.; and seven grandchildren and 14 grandchildren.
