Caliebe, Shirley A. (7 MAR 1927 – 26 FEB 2018)

Shirley A. Caliebe, 90, Greenwood, passed away on Monday, Feb. 26, 2018, at the Marshfield Medical Center in Marshfield. A Celebration of Life will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, March 10, at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Greenwood. Rev. Brian Campbell will officiate. Visitation will be held at the church on Saturday from 10 a.m. until the time of service.

Shirley Ann Syth was born on March 7, 1927, in Neillsville, to Arnold “Arleigh” and Ruby E. (nee Eisentraut) Syth. She was raised and received her education in the Greenwood area, graduating from Greenwood High School in 1945. After high school, Shirley attended secretarial school in Minneapolis and school in Cleveland, Ohio, to be an airport radio operator. She married Earl G. Caliebe on Feb. 15, 1947, in Greenwood. Shirley was a homemaker and worked as the secretary at St. Mary’s Catholic School in Greenwood for more than 25 years. After retiring, she and Earl kept busy raising their raspberries and strawberries, which they started in 1968. She had many interests, but especially loved mowing lawn, making latch-hook rugs, knitting, sewing, playing bridge, family vacations, and traveling the United States, Canada, Australia, Turkey, Israel, Greece and Mexico. Shirley was a member of Our Savior’s Lutheran Church, a former member of the Clark County Homemakers, and served as a 4-H leader when she was younger.

She will be dearly missed by her children: Corrine (Jerry) Miller of Marshfield, James (Linda) Caliebe of Eau Claire, Robert Caliebe of Chicago, Ill., Kurt Caliebe of Greenwood, and Ann Lindner of Greenwood; seven grandchildren: Jennifer, Eric (Carol), Jeff, David, Scott (Christina), Jana and Trevor; six great-grandchildren: Zachary, Alex, Isaac, Nora, Vincent and Ada; one brother, George Syth of Eau Claire; and other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Earl, on Sept. 7, 2014; one son-in-law, Ralph Lindner, on Jan. 31, 1988; and two sisters: Marian Syth and Mary Kebl. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be given in Shirley’s name for a memorial to be designated at a later date.
